A Visit to Stephanie Levy’s Studio

I visited Stephanie Levy’s studio in Brunswick in June and it was an exciting time for both of us. Stephanie had just retired from her working life to focus more time at home and on her art and I had no idea how much was going on in her studio. Stephanie is the “queen of scraps.” On a loom her husband Steve had made for her was a nine-foot-wide rug she was weaving of scrap fabrics in sensational colors. It is beautiful. On her table were pieced fabrics meant for quilts or tablelinens created from lovely stripes and prints. On the sofa in her home were pieced and stitched pillows made from scraps she is creating for Jill McGowan in Portland. On her clothesline were printed, silkscreened, gelatin-printed, and eco-dyed fabric pieces. On her beds were lovely large quilts, one made using log cabin techniques. On her work surface were printed scraps of papers going into handmade books.

The place is alive with color, piecing and stitching.

Stephanie will teach a log cabin quilting class for Maine Fiberarts this October 2017, and we invite you to come sew with us. Contact us.
